Gas Cubby

Many of your cars probably tell you what gas mileage you are “getting.” But the gas mileage your car is telling you is instantaneous not over-time for the month, or maybe does and it’s a genius, for a car. iPhone users, Gas Cubby won’t just tell you what miles per gallon you got on your last tank; it’ll remind you when you need to get your oil changed again, alignments, etc. Gas Cubby is easy to use, you just put in some data while you are waiting for your car to fill, your oil to be changed and voila you are done. Gas Cubby will tell you some depressing facts, like how expensive your car is per day.

Trapster

Not that we applaud speeding, running red lights or other law breaking activities… but if that’s what you’re into there is always Trapster (for iPhone, Android, Blackberry, other Smartphones, and GPS devices). We were kidding about highlighting an app that aids law-breaking, because Trapster does not only alert you as you approach speed traps, red light cameras. Trapster will also let you know if there is an accident and other roadway hazards ahead. This app requires people to input information as they see it, so help others and yourself with Trapster.

Zipcar

Attention all Zipcar members, or people wanting to do their part to save the planet by sharing fuel-efficient cars, now you can reserve your Zipcar with an app! Listed in Time Magazine’s 50 best iPhone apps for 2011, this app provides users with some awesome features. This location-based service app not only allows you to reserve a zip car on the go, but to reserve the Zipcar nearest you. With the virtual key fob, you can unlock or lock the car from your iPhone. Android users Zipcar will soon have an app for you too.

Voice Text Pro

Safety first: buckle up and start texting? With Voice Text Pro you can keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road… and send texts. iPhone users this app will run you $4.99, but your life is worth at least that much, we hope. With many states outlawing the use of mobile phones while driving, the 5 bucks could end up saving you a pretty penny, and you can’t put a price tag on safely arriving at your destination. Join in on the safety and have some fun with it.

ICE – In Case of Emergency

This is app is a must have in this world full of crazy drivers; hey you might be one of them. People don’t have enough time anymore, so they are eating, texting, maybe doing their makeup all while driving, increasing the number of road hazards for which you must carefully watch out. ICE allows people to list emergency contacts and medical conditions like a listing of allergies to medicines, or pre-existing medical conditions, all information first responders – who are now trained to look for this app – should have in case the unthinkable happens to you on the road. Downside, the app isn’t passcode friendly, as a first responder won’t know it.  So you’ll have to either remove your passcode, or adjust the settings so it won’t go into effect until after your estimated time to arrival.
